It's always a good thing when people are honorable enough to return the equipment to its rightful owner. Any identifying information is helpful. I recommend a phone number because not everyone knows what Twitter is!

At blogworld this year, someone lost their camera. The cool thing was, they had a label on it with their twitter ID... He was contacted and viola...the camera was returned to it's rightful owner! (Of course that might not always happen, but it did this time around so it was pretty cool).

Good idea Scott! I'd also recommend insurance if you can do so. It'll be replaced in the event it's not found.

The Brother label maker is awesome for this, and I use it to label all my gear, especially when I attend conferences. It's helped us out many times- great advice, Chel!

Thanks Michelle for the reminder. Also, record model and serial numbers and store them physically and online (google docs or somewhere) so you if stolen you can give it to the police to help recover it.
